Questions
Good to know.
Which grout finish should I choose: invisible, satin or high gloss?
An invisible finish protects grout from moisture and stains without changing its look, so it suits bathrooms, kitchens and feature walls. Satin adds a soft, glare-free sheen that works well in kitchens, hallways and utility rooms. High gloss gives bold shine and strong surface protection for statement spaces. Read our full guide to choosing the right grout finish.
Should I repair my grout or replace it completely?
Light cracks in small areas, slight discolouration and early mould spots can usually be repaired. Missing or crumbling grout throughout, water damage near the tiles or deep stains that will not come out are signs a full re-grout is the better long-term fix. See when to choose grout repair vs. full replacement.
Does the pH of my cleaner matter for tile and grout?
Yes. Acidic cleaners such as vinegar or lemon-based products can etch natural stone like marble and limestone and break down grout, while harsh heavy-duty degreasers can dull glazed ceramic and porcelain over time. A neutral or mildly alkaline tile cleaner is the safest everyday choice. Learn more about pH and cleaning agents and our tile care tips.
Is mould in shower grout dangerous?
Mould exposure can irritate anyone, and it is a bigger concern for people with asthma or allergies, young children, older adults and anyone with a weakened immune system. If mould keeps coming back after you clean, it is usually growing inside porous grout, and a professional deep clean followed by sealing is the lasting fix. Read is grout mould dangerous?
Can dirty grout affect a restaurant health inspection?
It can. Grout is porous, so it absorbs grease, moisture and food particles that nightly mopping does not remove, and mould or mildew in grout lines is easy for an inspector to spot. Regular professional grout cleaning keeps kitchen and dining room floors sanitary and looking cared for. See how grout cleaning impacts your health inspection score.
How do I know when my caulking needs to be redone?
Look for peeling or cracked caulk, dark mould spots or musty smells, gaps around tubs and sinks, yellowing, or water stains nearby. In rentals and busy homes, fresh caulking keeps moisture out and prevents bigger repairs. Read why caulking matters in rental and high-usage homes or book our caulking service.
